This week will be led by artist and conservationist Jazz Austin to explore our connection with the ocean and marine conservation through creativity. Sketching, painting, video making – whatever your preferred medium – we hope to create space for you to experiment and produce work inspired by the ocean and coastal landscapes you experience whilst sailing along the majestic Scottish coastline.

Setting sail from Mallaig, we will head North, past Kyle of Lochalsh and towards the Inner Sound with its beautiful islands and dramatic sea lochs. We will spend the mornings exploring under sail and aim to arrive at each anchorage in the early afternoon. This will allow plenty of time to be creative onboard and explore ashore in the dinghy in the long Scottish summer evenings (and perhaps even indulge in a spot of wild swimming if you’re keen… !).

Before cooking dinner together we will share our days work and discuss a marine conservation issue which can be used as an optional starting point to guide the next days creations. We’ll also take part in Sail Britain’s citizen science programme monitoring phytoplankton and exploring ocean plastic pollution. No previous painting or sailing experience is required – just an enthusiasm to get involved. You will be given a large hardbacked sketchbook to fill with your creations and ideas throughout the week. We look forward to welcoming you onboard!

The trip fee of £695 covers the cost of the boat, crew, all equipment and training you’ll need onboard, as well as food, fuel and gas for the week. Not included is your travel to and from the start/end points of the voyage and any expenses ashore, although these tend to very limited out in the wilds!

Please see this page for hints and tips about funding your trip if applicable.
