A week of connecting with our ocean through stories
28th August – 3rd September, Oban – Oban, from £995
This week we will be setting sail on a voyage to explore the secrets of the sea, how our lives are intimately connected with the health of the ocean and the wildlife there, and how storytelling can be a powerful force for good.
We are very excited to welcome environmental science communicator, campaigner and ocean advocate Emma Nicol as our trip leader this week. Emma will be sharing more about the many roles blue spaces play in our lives, from improving our own mental health to providing the life-giving air we breathe, and how we can all play a part in communicating their importance.

During the week, we will be opening up conversations around nature connection and how storytelling translates to stewardship and conservation of the blue spaces that we depend on . We will be running open-minded and inclusive creative storytelling sessions on how we can interact with nature in a way that is beneficial for our wellbeing, and how we can live in a way that embodies the protection of the environments we care about.
We invite you to bring your own experience and natural curiosity to the crew and we’re sure you’ll come back with new friends and insights! We’ll share a more detailed programme before we set sail.

Setting sail from Oban, our route will take us through some of the West Coast’s most beautiful scenery. We’ll be on the lookout for the incredible marine life that inhabits this part of the world. The coastlines and islands we hope to visit are home to amazing underwater ecosystems, rockpools, seals, cetaceans and more.
Emma is a wildlife guide and freediver, and a longstanding member of the Sail Britain crew. She encourages you to bring a wetsuit, mask and snorkel for whenever the opportunities arise to deepen our experience of these magical places. Please let us know if you need help sourcing these.

Cost contribution
This trip has two cost options, according to your circumstances.
Base tier, £995 – if you have a regular income or are able to source external funding for the trip.
Supporter tier, £1195 – if you are in a fortunate position, this allows us to invest in Sail Britain’s future and build resilience. For example, just this year, the need for a new engine was a major unexpected cost to the project and you can help support this. This also helps to keep the base tier accessible for those who otherwise wouldn’t be able to participate.
